I have a new roommate who has to be the weirdest person I have ever met. Having relocated to New York from England I was anticipating some strange people but this guy is beyond anything I expected.

Among many odd habits this guy constantly falls asleep in the SHOWER (yes, standing-up!!!).  I have had to go in the bathroom on numerous occasions to check if he is ok as I often hear a loud crash and find him getting up off the floor because he had fallen asleep!!!

An recent poll on www.weirdflatmate.com asked would you use your flatmate's toothbrush?

7% of the 629 respondents said that they always do while another 37% said they would, but only to clean the loo!

52% said no way and amazingly 4% don't even use a tooth brush!

Online research findings

Recently we conducted surveys on both realestate.com.au & propertyfinder.com to uncover the truth about weird flatmates. The results were surprising, entertaining, and scary. You wouldn’t believe what some flatmates get up to! Since consumers were so engaged by the topic, we decided to launch an international viral campaign across our Australian, UK and NZ sites.
 
Viral campaign

Today we are launching the campaign with a video clip created specifically for the internet, which features a most unusual flatmate. This cutting edge, comical clip will have people laughing all the way around the globe and leave you wondering what your flatmates get up to when you’re not around.

The ad will appear on a number of external sites, including myspace.com, zooweekly.com.au and lycos.co.uk (to maximize the viral uptake of the clip), as well as on key channels on ninemsn.com.au. We will also promote the clip on our own sites (www.realestate.com.au, www.propertyfinder.com, www.allrealestate.co.nz) and in newsletters.

To encourage consumer engagement with the video clip and our brands, we have sponsored a dedicated website - www.weirdflatmate.com. Flatmates around the world will be able to share their own flatmate stories via a blog on the site. In addition they can download the clip, review the survey findings in detail, read interesting flatmate stories, and respond to weekly polls. It’s fascinating reading!

Flatmates can really get on people's nerves, so much so that someone has created a blog with the sole intention of posting a daily entry describing her flatmate's annoying habits.

My flatmate has the tendency to take excessively long showers.. I'm not talking about 20 minute or 30 minute showers. I'm talking lengths of upto 45 minutes. Perhaps because she showers so infrequently she thinks it's ok to take showers of this length because her daily average is still within reasonable limits. Other than the fact she is being extremely wasteful with a finite resource, it means that subsequent persons using the shower get only cold water.
