Help! I am a total novice in the garden

Hi, our lawn needs more than loving!

Myself and my partner have just brought our first house together and the one thing that we are missing is a lawn mover. The house we purchased is in a real mess and buying a lawn mover is at the bottom of the list.

Our neighbour kindly leant me hers as the garden was a mess.  I have managed to cut it all back but after killing off most of the weeds I am left with not much apart from patches of grass.  I have planted grass seed, watering daily and giving it lawn feed (so fingers crossed it will grow).

 I am a total novice at gardening, however a lawnmover would be a wonderful addition to the tools that I have and would also help me turn our awful garden into the garden of our dreams.
